The looper pliers work with many forms of mandrels and so are excellently created to create reliable loops.  Some pliers have springs (one or double) to keep them apart when you release your grip. Some haven't any spring in any way that means It's important to manually open and close them. It is actually well worth getting spring loaded pliers
